At Insight School we are very focused on Sustainability. Our planet doesn’t have endless natural resources so, it only seems logical that Interior design has to go green! We ask Catherine Touzard a certified carbon auditor to bring awareness and knowledge of sustainable design to our students.

Sustainable Design seeks to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources and minimise waste whilst preserving an healthy environment. Interior Design students need to learn new ways of creating products and designs that are least damaging to our surroundings.

In order to do so they have to gain knowledge on:

    • sustainable materials (from fabrics to hard surfaces for floorings, walls or ceilings)
    • ways to save energy (better use of natural light, energy savings light bulbs…)
    • how to reduce toxic emissions (less pollution)

When we think air pollution is an outdoor scourge of big cities, especially here in Hong Kong, our houses and offices may actually be up to 7 times more polluted than the outside environment (1994 CSIRO review). This is due to harmful VOCs emitted by floorings, paints, varnishes, furnitures, carpets…

Interior Designers have the responsability to inform their clients they can improve the environment they live in by choosing green materials, eco-friendly furniture and energy-efficient appliances.

At Insight School you will have all the tools, guidance and inspiration you need to implement pioneering sustainable Interior Design.

Earth’s future is in our hands, it is up to us to preserve it!
